India’s democracy is vibrant and debates have been strong and competitive over the last months. Yet for many non-Indians, the workings of Indian politics seems incomprehensible. How does a political system of this magnitude work? What is at stake in the current national elections and what can we expect in the near future? A few questions amongst many, relevant for anybody who is doing business with or in India.
We have invited Dr. Pralay Kanungo to speak on the workings of the world’s largest democracy. Dr. Kanungo is currently the ICCR Chair for the Study of Contemporary India at LIAS. Before coming to Leiden he was Professor and Chair, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been a Fellow at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Visiting Professor at Maison des Sciences De L’Homme, Paris. He is a frequent publisher and writer of several books on Indian politics.
