India is the world’s biggest producer of milk, even though most of this production is not done in an efficient manner. On the other hand, domestic consumption of dairy products will rise significantly in the coming years.
India has a need for high-level technology and knowledge to improve the efficiency and quality of the dairy chain. Dutch companies can play an important role here. Dutch expertise and technology in the area of the whole dairy chain is innovative and unique, given The Netherlands the reputation of being the world’s best performing dairy nation in terms of efficiency, sustainability and integral approach to the dairy chain.
On 16 December 2015, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and eight companies and educational institutes (coordinated by NAFTC) from the Dutch Dairy sector, signed a strategic public private partnership. This partnership aims to accelerate and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, networks and market insights between India, being the largest dairy market in the world, and the Netherlands being regarded as highly efficient and known for its integrative chain approach. The cluster partnership is a concrete result of the visit to India by Prime Minister Rutte.
The Dutch Dairy Cluster India is a consortium of companies that have joined forces in order to provide adequate solutions to the Indian dairy chain. Whereas advancement depend on the weakest link, the integrative solution (covering, amongst others, generics, feed, animal health, farm management and food processing technology) is one of the main reasons for the establishment of the cluster. Together with the relevant Indian public and private stakeholders and the Dutch government (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Royal Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi) an Indo-Dutch approach encompassing dairy farming, handling and processing will be developed. Hence this PIB program is focused on the effective positioning of the Dutch Dairy sector in India and practical elaboration of existing partnerships, and to create new ones as well.
